  • Pick of the Week

I haven't done one of these in awhile, but I have picked up a couple of treasures recently that are pretty special.  The one I am going to share today is not super unique.  You can find them pretty easily, either on craigslist, etsy or a local garage sale.  The question most people ask is, "what do I do with it?"  They usually take up a good bit of space, don't work and like this one, weighs a TON!

    The Classic Typewriter!

This typewriter is a beauty. It has such a masculine quality that really gives it a bold presence, especially in photos!

So what do I do with this thing that weighs a TON and isn't really usable to write my first novel?

Take pictures with it, of course.

If you would like to see all the pictures from this Vintage Styled Bridal Shoot click on the link below,

  • Vintage Mini Sessions

It may not have felt exactly like spring these past few days, but we know its close.  So its time for spring cleaning, projects at home and spring pictures.  There is nothing cuter than kids posing for spring pictures.  That's why The Vintage Company was so excited to partner up with Jessica Brenner and do a vintage mini shoot.  A mini shoot lasts only 15 minutes, you get to choose your vintage style and you get edited photos on a cd to use as you like:)

Space is running out, so be sure to call and book your time slot!

  • The South Louisiana Bridal Expo

This weekend was The South Louisiana Bridal Expo at the Houma Civic Center.  This was the first bridal show for "The Vintage Company" and it was a great success.  We met lots of fantastic brides who were loving all our vintage goodies.

We shared a booth with a good friend of ours, not to mention a talented photographer, Jessica Brenner.  If you haven't already, head over to our website and check out all the new things happening at The Vintage Company.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

  • Just a Before

I picked up this piece at a local estate sale and what excited me the most about this piece was that it was going to be all mine!! I wasn't going to sell it or paint it with the intention that one day I would sell it, it was going to paint it to suit my taste.  While it may instantly scream uck to some of you out there, it screamed pottery barn to me.  I pictured it in my home office holding all my office supplies.

Now it definitely needs some work, like a serious cleaning. It also has a little bit of a smell that I'm not to fond of, but otherwise I know its going to be beautiful.

The reason this is titled "just a before" is because that's all I have, is a before.  I haven't touched it, yet!  I'm not in a rush for this piece, and I actually enjoy looking and thinking about a piece for a little while.  I like to picture every color of the rainbow and think about all the possibilities.  Anyone else like that? Any ideas on color? Let me know what you think!

  • Exciting Year

    Hello Everyone,

Yes, I know its been awhile.  Its not because I haven't been doing anything.  Its actually the exact opposite.  After the show last year I felt a little burnt out, like I usually do after I have been painting non-stop for weeks and hauling heavy awkward furniture all over the city of Houma. (I do have a very nice husband who helps haul my furniture, and who also lovingly says, "why don't you start sewing pillows!") But still, after the show I really didn't want to look at a paint brush much less pick up any kind of furniture, for a good couple of weeks.  But after needed down time, I start to get excited about what will come next. What came next was enough to get me very excited!!!

At the show in September someone came up to my booth and because they loved the way it was styled asked if  I would be interested in helping with her daughter's wedding.  To be perfectly honest I had never really thought about going in that direction with my business, but after thinking about it for a split second I said, "sure!"

A couple months passed and we met at there venue, Ducros Plantation, to discuss the plan.  After that first meeting I was hooked, I knew that to style this wedding with all my vintage treasures would not only be fun but this was something that I could & would be really good at.  After meeting the bride for the second time at her venue I started to think about the future.  Would this be something that I wanted to do once or something that I wanted to pursue??  The answer was YES, this was something that I wanted to pursue!!

In order to really pursue this, I was going to need some help, after all I do have a little bit on my plate as it is.  And as nice as my husband is, he already has a business, and doesn't really share my love of vintage, in fact he just says things are old!! It's called VINTAGE!  So that's where Crystal Holliday, of iiicreative, comes in.  She has been a friend of mine for several years and shares my love of vintage.  After a casual lunch discussing our ideas, and realizing this could actually work!! We got to work, and boy have we been working!!!

    Introducing The Vintage Company:

To say we are excited about this new venture is a understatement!!  I am looking forward to sharing many new things as the months go by.......but for now just know I'm still here and still working!

  • Pick of the week

This pick shows that I don't see the need to paint everything.  This mantle is beautiful just the way it is.  All it needed was some cleaning and I used a little hemp oil to revive the dried wood.  This beauty dates back to early 1900's. The details and craftsmanship are definitely one of a kind.

This is the kind of piece that can instantly take your "new" home and give it the character that you are desperate to achieve.

This mantle will be listed on ETSY soon, but if you would like to see it in person, it can be seen at Sweet Olive Café and Antiques.

  • Before and After

I have been trying out some new products and techniques lately.  Some have been turning out great, while others not so great!!!  But that's one thing I love about paint, its just paint!!  You don't like it just paint over it.

I did manage to finish this precious little desk.  It has all the vintage accessories that I just love, casters and crystal knobs.  The drawers have been covered with vintage dictionary pages.  It turned out great.  I will be listing it on ETSY soon, but if your local and would like to see it or purchase it, it can be found at Sweet Olive Café and Antiques.

Here is what it looked like before:

  • Pick of the Week

This pick is definitely one that I am very tempted to keep. I even tried to find the perfect spot in my mom's house so that it would just stay in the family. But its something I have to remind myself, this is a business.  So here it is.............

This scale is the perfect vintage piece.  I love scales in kitchens with fruit on them. In living rooms on book shelves with books on them.  I love the rust with the white peeking through.  I also love the words stamped on it "Penn Scale"  Ok......I LOVE IT!!

With that said.. I am listing it in my shop on etsy, so if your interested in purchasing this pick along with my others please visit my shop

  • Pick of The Week

This week I found something, that at first I thought they would be perfect for a little boy's room.  But in my quest to find out more about them, I realized they would be perfect in lots of different rooms.

    Vintage Speed Liner Water Skis

I love the colors, the patina of the wood and the fact that these were once used by someone.  They are in great shape and I can't wait to put them at Sweet Olive Café

I am also linking to Miss Mustard Seed's Furniture Friday, featuring the twin beds I did a couple of weeks ago.  She has a fantastic blog so be sure to check it out!!

  • Pick of the Week

Yes, in case you were wondering I do love the show “American Pickers.”   If you don’t watch it or have never seen it, you are missing out.  Besides Painted Furniture, I also sell some of my vintage finds at the Sweet Olive Café. What I would like to do is have a regular post and show you what my new pick of the week is.

So this week its one of my favorites and greatest finds ever,  it’s a vintage paper roller.

I can just picture this paper roll holder ( I really don't know the technical term) on a counter in a old general store.  I have always admired these paper rollers in magazines and catalogs ( the pottery barn catalog)  and when I saw this one at a local flea market, I knew it was going to be mine.  The wood has a gorgeous patina and its the perfect size.  They apparently come in many different sizes, I have seen a few on etsy but they don’t stay very long.

Next week I plan to share a pick that I am actually going to sell at Sweet Olive, for now I am going to keep this one!!!

About Me

My name is Mandy and I love finding something old, outdated and giving it a new life using paint. The process I use to restore my furniture is an Art. Not only do I tediously pick and build every piece by hand but I only get pieces that I truely love. If I love a piece of furniture I will spend the time that is needed to hand-paint, distress, sand and wax every nook and cranny.
